| ANTIQUE FAIR AT NARITA in Chiba Prefecture outdoor The fair is held at two places in Narita. Main Site: The fair is held every month on the 28th (except January). 7 a.m.-4 p.m. at the site in front of the main gate of Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. Second site: Hanasaki-cho near JR Narita Station every month on the 1st Saturday except January. Next fair at Hanasaki in Nov. will be on 2 and in Dec. on 7. Shinshoji Temple of Narita is the time-honored one of the largest temple in Japan which has a history of over 1,000 years. Since the time of Edo period, the temple has attracted many believers. The convenient location to Narita International Airport allows visitors in transit to visit the temple. The temple has a strong relationship with the kabuki family Ichikawa and they are called "Narita-ya" as their house name. The first generation Ichikawa Danjuro hailed from Narita. | TOKYO ART CLUB indoor Tobi Fine Art Sale, Dec. 7 and 8 (10 a.m.- 6 p.m.) Admission: free. Soon after the Meiji Restoration in 1867, the art dealing gradually began to be active. In 1892, there was a grand auction held at a Japanese-style restaurant at Akasaka. Because of the inconvenience of renting the spaces for art auctions, we decided to purchase our own building when the Iseheiro Japanse-style restaurant at Ryogoku was for sale, and that was when the Tokyo Art CLub. Co., Ltd was establshed. Over one hundred years, Tokyo Art Club has been making substantial contribution to the cultural life of Japanese people by handing down the highest standard of art, and seeking new coming art. | Kanda Jimbo-cho Furuhon Matsuri (Rare, Old and Used Books Festival) outdoor 2024 Oct. 25-Nov. 4 Jimbocho, Kanda, Chiyoda-ku is known as a book town of Tokyo. The district is an academic area with lots of schools and colleges. Unique with Jimbocho is the concentration of large number of old and used bookstores. 160 shops deal with rare books, antique books, letters and documents, art books, science books, comics, foreign books, entertainment related books, etc. Genres sold are different by shops. 300,000 books are sold at bargain prices. | ANTIQUE FAIR AT FUDA TENJIN SHRINE IN CHOFU outdoor The antique fair is held every month on the second Sunday at Fuda Tenjin Shrine in Chofu, western suburbs of Tokyo with about 50 shops. Next fair in Nov. will be on 10 and in Dec. on 8. The shrine has moved to the present place from the place near the Tama River after a big flood in 1477. | ANTIQUE FAIR AT TSUKINOMIYA SHRINE IN URAWA outdoor The market is held on the 4th Saturday every month except December at Tsukinomiya Park behind the Tsukinomiya Shrine in Urawa, Saitama Prefecture. Next fair in Nov will be on 23 and in Dec. on 28. 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. with 180 shops. Admission is free. The market centers on traditional folk utensils of Japan which is similar to Kawagoe Narita Fudoson Nomi-no-ichi and Heiwajima Antique Show. The Tsukinomiya Shrine is close to JR Urawa Station and is a unique shrine. The shrine does not have "torii" which is a symbol of Japanese shrines and intead of a pair of "shishi dogs," it places a pair of stone rabbits for a reason that the shrine is called Tsuki Jinja in short by people of Urawa. | KAWAGOE NARITA FUDOSON NOMI-NO-ICHI outdoor Kawagoe Narita Fudoson in Kawagoe, Saitama prefecture is one of many branch temples of Naritasan. The fair is held every month on the 28th from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. with about 100 shops. The fair is a pretty large antique fair of this type which is held at temples and shrines with more than 100 shops. Items displayed and sold here are similar to the antique fair at Heiwajima which includes many traditional folk utensils. People can enjoy huge varieties looking around and finding old Japanese daily utensils.
