New Year Days at Ikegami Honmonji Temple 2017
New Year Days Jan. 1,2 and 3 Ikegami Honmonji Temple at Ikegami, Ota-ku Ikegami Honmonji is a temple of Nichiren sect of Japanese Buddhism and is the largest temple of the sect in Tokyo. The temple is also known as the place where Nichiren breathed his last. Nichiren lived from 1222 to 1282. His idea about buddhism was unique in Japan. His attitude to life was aggressive. He fought against the then major buddhism forces by which people longed to escape from the troubles of the world. They sought deliverance through the Pure Land of Amida Buddha. To this, Nichiren insisted that there could be no elevation of the mind unless one attempted to attain Buddhahood through one's own efforts. http://honmonji.jp/foreign/en.html Address: 1-1-1 Ikegami, Ota-ku Access: Ikegami Station on Tokyu Ikegami Line 10 minutes walk Telephone: 03-3752-2331 |
