Kanda Matsuri (Sunday) Kanda, Chiyoda-ku Kanda Matsuri this year (2019) falls on a major festival year. May 11 (Sat) Shinkosai Grand Parade starts Kanda Myojin Shrine at 8 a.m. while Tsuke Matsuri (additional festival performances) joins the parade from Arima Elementary School in Kakigaracho, Chuo-ku at 3 p.m. and passes Chuo Dori Street in front of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Department Store at around 4 p.m. returning to the shrine at 6 to 7 p.m. The shrine mikoshi pulled on a wheel during the parade will be carried by people from Akihabara at 5 p.m. and returns to the shrine at 7 p.m. On May 12, Sunday 108 town mikoshis visit the shrine one after another from early in the morning till night all day. The Kanda Myojin is one of the oldest and the greatest shrines in Tokyo. Since Edo days, its festival has been regarded as one of the two major festivals of the metropolis, the other being that of the Sanno Shrine.
