Bon Odori at Hibiya Park was introduced in 2003 commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Hibiya Park which is located in the midst of Tokyo near the Imperial Palace, Marunouchi Business Center and Ginza. Despite its short history, it is already one of the largest Bon Odori event in Japan. This year in 2016, the Bon Odori gathered 34,000 people in two days. Participants are people who work at Marunouchi and Ginza areas, neighbors, embassy people, foreign tourists, children and people who come to join the dance from other areas of Tokyo.
The features of the Hibiya Park Bon Odori are the colorful illuminated big fountain in the center of the park and the British Embassy staff who play the bon odori taiko (Japanese drums). They have been joining the event from the beginning of the festival.
