Halloween is a cultural import from the West to Japan. Yet, the event has become a major seasonal event and has spread to many cities throughout the country. At Shibuya in Tokyo where people gather most for the event, Metropolitan Police Department is prepared to control the traffic at the scramble in front of JR Shibuya Station to avoid confusions that happened last year. On Saturday, October 29, 2016, from the evening, many - mostly youngsters in various costumes of zombies, witches, fairies, movie characters began to flow into the town of Shibuya the peak being at around 8 p.m. This is not a festival or a traditional event but is a social phenomenon. For that reason, they do not have official programs issued or pamphlets circulated. Japanese people attracted to this unique Western event, jumped to it and together with commercialism, the Halloween appears putting down roots in Japan. The event is originally popular among children and many children's Halloween parades take place at various places in Tokyo such as at Odaiba, Roppongi Hills, Kichijoji and other places.
