AKASAKA HIKAWA SHRINE ANNUAL FESTIVAL
|Akasaka Hikawa Shrine Annual Festival in 2016
Sept. 16 (Fri), 17 (Sat) and 18 (Sun)
Sept. 16, Friday (Festival Eve) - 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Two town mikoshis and a dashi float (Shojo).
Course: Hitotsugi Dori-Akasaka Mitsuke-Biz Tower-Nakano machi.
Sept. 17, Saturday - 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Newly built miya mikoshi (shrine mikoshi) on a dashi vehicle and three floats, Yamato Takeru-no-Mikoto in female attire, Shojo and a monkey. Kiyari and Akasaka geisha will accompany the parade. Wakayama Festival Group from Kishu (Wakayama Prefecture) especially joins the parade this year commemorating the 300 years since the Yoshimune's assumption of Tokugawa Shogunate. Tokugawa Yoshimune in the parade is played by a popular Japanese actor Ken Matsudaira on a horse back. The 8th Tokugawa Shogun Yoshimune was chosen from the Kishu Wakayama Tokugawa Family in 1716. Yoshimune built the main hall of Akasaka Hikawa Shrine in 1729 and the building is still used today. The building is designated as a important cultural asset of Japan. Ken Matsudaira will appear in the parade from 2 p.m. to 3:45 at Akasaka Street. Festival ceremony at Tokyo Midtown 4 p.m.

Sept. 18, Sunday, Jinkosai Grand Parade - 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
The Jinkosai parade starts from Hikawa Shrine at 9 a.m. and after parading all areas of Akasaka returns to the shrine at 5 p.m. Two dashi floats (Monkey and Yamato Takeru-no-Mikoto). At Sacas Akasaka, there will be a shinto ritual and dances by geisha (1:20 p.m.-2:25 p.m.).
